Assistant Dean José J. Madera will be available once a week (TUESDAYS, 1:00 – 4:00 pm) to assist or advise you while discussing questions related to general matters about STEM-focused research, major exploration, community contacts, etc. These sessions are not intended to substitute your established connections and scheduled meetings with your academic advisor. L&S Dean Wilcots have asked all L&S departments to look into their respective units for opportunities aimed to engage incoming freshman scholars in current research or project efforts in L&S STEM disciplines and make them available for any of our members of CAE’s 2020 cohort. CAE is currently collaborating with STEM-focused academic department to provide virtual sessions for an early, personal introduction to these majors and curricular/co-curricular activities available to all of you.

This initiative, L&S STEM SESSIONS, an on-boarding STEM-focused for all CAE Scholars and Scholars from affiliated programs, is one of our efforts designed to introduce you to student life at UW-Madison while observing physical distancing protocols intended to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

As a strong community of thinkers and achievers, I invite you to join us and participate in L&S STEM SESSIONS. L&S STEM academic department will showcase their majors and offerings inside and outside the classroom, discuss the benefits of declaring and completing a STEM major, and feature the work conducted by our stellar faculty and researchers in your respective disciplines.

These 30-min presentations will be followed by a Q&A section.  So far, we have selected the following weeks for the presentations and are currently finalizing, and will soon disclose, specific details (date, time, link).
